As an RVer, you may be fortunate enough to experience the beauty and wonder of nature while on the road. However, this can also bring potential dangers, such as encountering wild animals.
One of the scariest encounters that you may have while RVing is coming face-to-face with a mountain lion. These large cats are known for their stealthy behavior and can pose a serious threat to humans, especially if they feel threatened or provoked.
So, what do you do if you return from a hike and find a mountain lion inside your camper? Here are some tips to help you safely remove the animal and prevent any further encounters:
1) Remain calm and don't panic. It's natural to feel scared or panicked in this situation, but it's important to remain as calm as possible. If you start screaming or acting aggressively, you could potentially provoke the mountain lion and make the situation worse.
2) Keep your distance. Mountain lions are known for their agility and quick reflexes, so it's important to keep your distance from the animal. If possible, try to position yourself behind a solid object, such as a tree or a rock, to create a barrier between you and the mountain lion.
3) Make yourself look bigger. If the mountain lion is showing aggressive behavior, try to make yourself look bigger and more imposing by raising your arms and opening your jacket. This may help deter the animal from attacking.
4) Use a loud noise to scare the mountain lion away. Mountain lions are sensitive to loud noises, so try clapping your hands or using a whistle or other noisemaker to startle the animal and encourage it to leave.
5) Seek help from authorities. If the mountain lion is still inside your camper and showing no signs of leaving, it's important to seek help from authorities. Call the local wildlife department or park ranger and let them know the situation. They will have the experience and resources to safely remove the mountain lion from your camper.
While encountering a mountain lion can be a scary experience, following these tips can help you safely remove the animal and prevent any further encounters. Always remember to be cautious when exploring the great outdoors, and take necessary precautions to protect yourself and your family.
